Peter Kay has cancelled his long-awaited upcoming tour along with all other scheduled live work commitments, due to unforeseen circumstances within his family.

The 44-year-old has asked for privacy regarding his reason for the cancellation.
In a statement, Kay said: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all my upcoming work projects. This unfortunately includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding work commitments.

“My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.
“I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again I’m very sorry.”
The Bolton stand-up announced the Peter Kay Live Tour earlier this year, marking his first comedy tour in eight years. Tickets sold out almost immediately leading to extra dates being added.

Starting April 2018 in Birmingham, the tour was scheduled to take Kay across the UK with shows in Glasgow, Manchester, London, Leeds, Nottingham, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Liverpool.
For ticket refunds, customers are advised to contact their original point of purchase.
Speaking about the tour before the cancellation, Kay said: “I really miss it. I know how lucky I am to be making television series and have really loved these past few years working on ‘Car Share’ but I miss doing stand-up.
“As terrifying as it is, when it works there’s nothing more fun and exciting. Plus, a lot has happened in the last eight years, with Trump, Twitter, and my Nan getting her front bush trimmed at the age of 96. I can’t wait to get back up on stage.”
Kay’s last tour – which started in 2010 – quickly became the highest selling comedy tour of all time, playing to over 1.2 million people.

Since then, Kay has starred in and directed the BAFTA-winning sitcom Car Share, played a character in ITV’s Cradle to Grave, and cameoed in Inside No 9
