A
House of Representatives committee yesterday threatened to issue arrest warrant
against the Vice Chancellor of the Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Prof Kyari
Mohammed, over failure to explain expenditures in the 2016 budget.
The
committee on tertiary education chaired by Rep Aminu Suleiman (APC, Kano) had
turned down the 2017 budget proposal of the university following the VC’s
inability to explain expenditures incurred under personnel, overhead and
internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2016.
The
committee said the VC must give detailed explanation on the above before the
university’s 2017 budget could be approved.
The
committee said it invited the VC twice on the matter but that he failed to
honour its invitation or give reasons for his non-appearance.
At
a session yesterday, the committee said the VC must appear on Friday or it
would be left with no option than to invoke its relevant powers to compel him.
“We
can’t take this from him. This is the second time we invited him to explain the
2016 budget, but he failed to honour our invitation. This is not the way to do
things. He has up to Friday, March 31 to appear or we’ll invoke our powers,”
Rep Suleiman said.
