A truck plunged into a dried
river Sunday night, killing passengers and livestock.
Witnesses said 35 people died,
but the Federa
l Road Safety Commission confirmed 15 dead.
Witnesses say the incident
happened at night when the truck lost control on Ngurore Bridge in Ngurore
village, Yola South council area of Adamawa.
Residents said 32 corpses and at
least 30 injured persons were taken to hospitals in Yola.
However, the Adamawa Sector
Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adegoke Adetunji, who
confirmed 15 deaths, said, "On arrival at the scene, we discovered that it was
a truck carrying cows and passengers that lost control and fell into the drying
river," the commander said.
Adetunji advised motorists desist
from transporting human beings and animals together as that could be dangerous.
